Muzzle Breaks

All my muzzle breaks are made from either hardened 4140 steel or 303 stainless steel. Turned and milled on state-of-the-art CNC equipment right here. Each piece is individually made and quality inspected before leaving the shop. Any caliber can be ordered as these are a made to order.

You must specify what caliber and thread at time of order.

These are the latest design coming from many tested prototypes. I have designed a test machine with help of some of the finest engineers so as to be able to state, with real backup data, that the reduction of recoil is from 40% to 50% and even higher depending on caliber and outside dimension of the break. There are two sizes 1 1/8″ OD and 7/8″ OD, and these are made with either 12×28 or 5/8×24 thread.

Important when ordering, the note box in Payment Details is to tell me what caliber.

Tom Hanson, The Las Cruces Gunsmith has developed a muzzle brake or recoil compensator that can be either fitted to, or attached as a permanent part of, the muzzle of a rifle or pistol.  It redirects propellant gases  from the side and top to counter gun recoil and unwanted rising of the barrel without any downward gas to kick up dust. These devices are useful for combat and timed competition shooting, and are commonly installed on rifles firing large cartridges (such as big-game rifles). The greater the gas volume the greater the counter force. I have designed and use a spring tension recoil measuring fixture that clearly shows significant reduction in recoil for even light recoiling rifles. The pictured break is on a Browning X Bolt rifle in .338 Win Mag. This light weight rifle, when tested without the break, had extreme muzzle flip and rearward movement of nearly 3 inches. A tested 300 Win Mag recoiled 2.15 inches which took 51.5 lbs of static weight to move the fixture the same distance. With the break on the 338 there was no muzzle flip and a measure movement of 2.25 inches. A graph below will show results of other tests.

OD smaller than 7/8 will give lower recoil reduction.

The Tamers can be custom made for any caliber or barrel size. Threads are cut to fit any previously threaded barrel. Standard sizes are 1/2 x 28 and 5/8 x 24.

Recoil Test Sled

This is a spring loaded device that is anchored to a bench and the sled records the distance traveled. The spring is adapted from a Remington Mod 11 recoil spring. I am pleased how repeatable the results are. And I am confident these recoil reducing breaks do give up to 50% reduction in actual recoil.
